A question from Clyde Besner of Oregon, U.S.A.
Trying to get a lineage on John Besner. My Grandfather related that the original spelling of the name was Beznair, or some such spelling. I was able to clarify that my Great-Grandfather's name was John Benjamin Besner, and that name was passed on to his Son and one of his Grandsons {My Father}. I have it that he walked across Canada, and down the coast of the U.S., and eventually ended up in California and Arizona. This would have been before the turn of the century. He disappeared when my Grandfather was 10 or 12 yrs old {John B. Besner Jr}. Since my Grandfather was orphaned at such a young age, he was not full of information, except for his own experiences. My Father, John B. Besner the 3rd was born 10/12/1909 and passed away 1/4/1986 in California. Would appreciate any precious info which you may have. Thank you.
A very likely answer from Hector Besner of Coteau-du-Lac, province of Québec, Canada
Your Great-Grandfather may be John Benjamin Besner, born at Coteau-du-Lac, January 23rd ,1840, 4th child - son of Antoine Besner and Rose Lalonde. California was an undefined destination to explain that a beloved one had quit his roots to go west....without leaving address nor giving news to his relatives for a very long time or never... California could be Arizona, Utah or Oregon.... (those territories were not yet specific states) and I suppose that he was not yet married when leaving his birthplace.
Jean-Baptiste, as a name, does not sound very american, isn't? - then he may have change it for John Benjamin, with the same initials: J.B. Jean in english is John, and Benjamin is surely in honor of his own uncle Benjamin my own Great-Grandfather.
Jean-Baptiste, or John Benjamin was the 4th child of Antoine-III Besner and Rose Lalonde from the Lineage or family branch of the Besner's known as ''Antoine''; his birth date is January 23rd ,1840 in Coteau-du-Lac, Québec, Canada. According to a genealogical tree from Father Dugas published in 1898, it is said that he was unmarried and had left for California. He died between 1888-1889 in USA. He got married about 1875 in California with CLOTILDA BRAM ,daughter of ? Bram and Maria Publetis, born about 1860 in Sutter Creek, California (?); died in Clifton, Arizona (?). Publetis was a family of Chilean origin.
